National Pool Lifeguard Qualificiation

The RLSS UK National Pool Lifeguard Qualification is an internationally recognised lifeguard qualification and is the most awarded in the United Kingdom and Ireland. This qualifications trains you to the highest standard of lifeguarding and is an excellent starting point for anyone looking into a career within the leisure industry. Most leisure managers started off as pool lifeguards with this qualification.

What will you cover?

The National Pool Lifeguard Qualification is broken down into three sections:

1. The Lifeguard, Swimming Pool and Supervision
2. Intervention, Rescue and Emergency Action Plan
3. Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, AED and First Aid

First Aid at Work, Emergency First Aid at Work and AED certificates can also be added to this qualification. Please get in touch to discuss your options.

Assessment & Certificate

The NPLQ assessment takes place at the end of the course by an independent assessor and determines your knowledge, understanding and skills of working within as a pool lifeguard. You will demonstrate these skills and knowledge in a work-related environment.

The assessment is split into three sections:

1. Theory assessment - multiple choice question paper
2. Practical pool assessment
3. Practical first aid and CPR assessment

Qualification Renewal

Once gaining the NPLQ it is valid for two years from the assessment date. You must renew your qualification within its period of validity and in order to renew you must gain a minimum of 20 hours ongoing training (covering theory, pool work, first aid & CPR) and be able to provide written evidence of this. Your employer will provide ongoing training.
