National Rescue Award for Swimming Teachers and Coaches Light

This new qualification is designed for swimming pools where lifeguard or first aid back up is available to respond quickly to an incident.

If first aid or lifeguard backup is not available the full National Rescue Award for Swimming Teachers and Coaches should be used.

The National Rescue Award for Swimming Teachers and Coaches is a supervision and rescue qualification designed for swimming teachers and coaches. It is suitable for those working on the poolside or within the water and qualifies the holder to supervise programmed activities (i.e. swimming lessons), working at a wide variety of pools, including when the water is out of the teachers depth.

What will you cover?

The National Rescue Award for Swimming Teachers and Coaches is broken down into 3 sections:

1. The Teacher, Swimming Pool and Class Management
2. Intervention, Rescue and Emergency Action
3. CPR

Assessment & Certificate

The NRASTC assessment takes place at the end of the course by an independent assessor and determines your knowledge, understanding and skills of working within a pool environment and supervising sessions. You will also demonstrate these skills and knowledge in a work-related environment. The assessment is split into three sections:

1. Theory assessment (question and answers);
2. Pool assessment (practical) and;
3. CPR (combination of Q & A, and practical)

Qualification Renewal

The qualification is valid for two years from the date of assessment and holders must renew their qualification within its period of validity. Before renewing the qualification your trainer should consider you prepared and ready for the assessment, which is achieved by attending a 6-hour refresher course or attending ongoing training. You will then be assessed in the same way as the initial assessment.
